Nagari Prefecture introductions
Nagari
Known as the roof on the Roof of the World, Nagari, 4,500meters above sea level, is located in the northwestern part of Tibet. It is dotted with lakes without many inhabitants and it is a paradise for wild animals, such as yaks, Tibetan antelopes, and wild donkeys. The historical sites of Nagri include the ruins of the Guge Kingdom and the Toding Monastery.
Mt. Kailash
Mt. Kailash (Kangrinpoche), situated in the Western region of Tibet, has been considered sacred by Buddhists, Hindus, Jains and Bonpos for thousands of years. For Hindus and Buddhists, it is the Center of the Universe. A pilgrimage tour to Kailash and a kora (trek) around it is the supreme goal for the faithful. Mt. Kailash is also revered as the source of four of the great rivers of Asia, the Indus, Bramhaputra (Tsangpo), Karnali (Ganges) and Sutlej, they are all fed by the waters of the nearby sacred Lake Mansarovar.
Lake Manasarovar
Sacred Lake Manasarovar (4588m) is located in Western Tibet between Mt. Kailash (6714 m) and the Gurla Mandhata Range (Memo Nani, 7694m). For Hindus, Lake Manasarovar floats beneath the shadow of holy Kailash and was created to show the omnipotence of Brahma mind (manas). Tibetans know it as Maphan Tso, the Unconquerable Lake? For many, this is holiest lake in Asia.

The Ruins of the Guge Dynasty
Located up the mountain of Gunrenpochi southside of the Elephant Spring river, it was built by Kere ,the offspring of the Tupo kings. It was extended mostly in the 10th and the 16th centuries. The size of the ruin is 180 square kilometres. It is composed of 300 caves, 300 buildings and 3 Buddha pagodas. The main constructions are temples and palaces surrounded by walls and castles. Inside the houses, there are colour paintings and frescos on the walls. Ancient relics are to be seen everywhere. Guge Dynasty occupies a very important position in Tibetan history.
