One of the most magnificent Royal Palaces anywhere in the world - the Potala Palace former home of the Dalai Lamas, is built on top of a rock in 1645 and has over 1000 rooms, 10,000 shrines and 2,00,000 religious statues.Shannan prefecture, the originating place of Tibet culture, where you can have a visit of the tombs of Tibetan Kings,taking a boat to Samye monastery on Yarlu Tsangpo river which impresses you maybe all of your life.
Day 1: Beijing- Lhasa Go to Beijing airport yourself and take the morning flight. Arrive at Lhasa Gonggar airport which is about 3650 meters high, drive to Lhasa urban, en route visit Brahmaputra valley, Buddha Sculpture made in the 11th century and Tibetan village etc.Arrive in Lhasa and check in the hotel. For the rest of this afternoon.you can have a rest and then have a free sightseeing all by yourself. (No tour guide service today but the Tibetan guide will pick up you at Lhasa airport, please do not have violent physical activity.) Day 2:Lhasa urban full day sightseeing. After breakfast,visit the splendid Potala Palace, the administation site of Dalai Lama,then visit the Jokhang Temple,after that go to Barkhor Street where you can have a good visit of this ancient Tibetan street and do some shoppings of Tibetan ornaments.Overnight in Lhasa Day 3:Lhasa-Shigatse (320Km) Drive to Shigatse, after breakfast in Lhasa, en route visit Yamdrok Lake which is one of the holy lakes respected by local Tibetans,then have a view of Korala Glaciers along the road, then transfer to Shigatse hotel. Day 4: Shigatse-Tsedang.(360Km) Full day guided tour, visit Tashilhunpo Monastery, Shigatse fair, after lunch visit the Lhokar - the Tibetan granary and see the local life, then drive about 4 hours and a half to Tsedang along Yalu Tsongpo river.Overnight in Tsedang. Day 5: Tsedang-Samye-Yumbulakang-Tombs of Tibet Kings-Lhasa.(160Km) After breakfast, drive to visit the Tombs of Tibet Kings among which Songzan Ganpo"s tomb is the largest one,then go to visit Yumbulakang which is a monastery has a history of 2,100 years, known as the "Palace built on the hind leg of a femal deer". After lunch drive to a small dock at the riverside of Yarlu Tsangpo river, take a local boat on Yarlu Tsongpo river for about 1 hour and a half to the other side of the river and change to the local jeeps or tractors which will send you to Samye monastery, the largest monastery in Shannan prefecture and then come back the same way and drive about 2 hours and a half back to Lhasa in the afternoon.Overnihgt in Lhasa. Notice:On the boat to the samye monastery,you will see imposing gorges,verdent forests,sky-scraping snow mountains.The river bed of Yarlu Tsongpo river becomes much wider after it runs through several gorges, and water bebcomes much milder and smoother, you can enjoy a comfortable boat ride and the magnificent view of Yarlu Tsongpo river. The boat is local ferry boat which can hold 10 persons, the price in the low travel season is about RMB400 for a round ride, while in high travel season it is about RMB700 for a round ride.When you get down the boat at the other side of Yarlu Tsangpo river, you can change to the local Jeep or tractors which can drive you to Samye monastery with the price around RMB15/person. Day 6: Lhasa-Beijing. Take the morning flight and fly back to Beijing, end tour.
