Mao Zedong Villa The villa of Chairman Mao Zedong is perched on the bank of East Lake of Wuchang. The villa has three buildings Meiling One, Two and Three. Built in 1985 as a retreat house for Mao and his ruling group, it was used during the Cultural Revolution as a quiet escape. The villa now provides travelers with a quiet escape from the bustle of Wuhan with it‘s tree-lined footpath, dense grove, pines and bamboo trees. Meiling One was Mao‘s private residence where he ate, slept, wrote and entertained such high profile visitors as President Richard Nixon and Secretary of State Henry Kissinger. The interior decor lacks for taste unless bright pink and green satin is your thing. Nonetheless, the place has quite a bit of history and the gardens are nice.      Photo Album of Hubei
