Seven Star Crags Park Central to this island park, bounded by lakes,is a group of limestone towers. The crags conceal caves and grottos that you can explore;willow and kapok trees line the paths around Star Lake (Xing Hu) . A motor boat will take you from Gateway Square (Paifang Guangchang) at the southernmost tip of the lakes to a small bridge leading into the park. Dinghu Mountain Dinghu Shan is located 18km (11 miles) northeast of Zhaoqing; Dinghu Shan is a range of heavily forested mountains reaching up to 1,000 meters (3,280ft) in height. The whole mountain range of Dinghu Shan has been designated as an area of special interest by the UN. The mountain of Dinghu Shan has a vast variety of fauna and flora and there are at least 17,000 types of plants growing in this area. The hills of Dinghu Shan have numerous lakes, waterfalls, temples and pavilions. Some of the better known attractions in the Dinghu Shan mountain range include Baiyun Temple which was built during the Tang dynasty (618-907) and Qingyun Temple which was built during the Ming dynasty (1368-1644). The Dinghu Shan boasts of luxuriant forests, lush waterfalls, refreshing lakes, bodacious mountains all these things make Dinghu Shan one of Guangdongˇ®s great week-end getaway spots. For the people who love good food, Dinghu Shan is a disappointment, being a mountain range it offers very limited choices in terms of food. Inside Qingyun Temple, there is an excellent Buddhist vegetarian restaurant. We had a fabulous meal here of Cantonese vegetables, delicious sweet breads and the most truly transcendent flower tea. A couple of proletarian restaurants are nearby with only Chinese food, lots of wild mushrooms. At many outdoor stalls or in the restaurants, one can buy the local specialty "guo jun" which is rice, pork fat and beans wrapped in leaves and steamed for 11 hours. For the lover of medicinal food there is one restaurant located at the Dinghu Mountain Health Club which offers some decent medicinal foods. Some of the major tourist attraction on Dinghu Shan includes:.Qingyun Temple: Qingyun Temple, with a building area of 9,000 square meters, was built in 1436, during the Ming Dynasty (1368-1644). The relics of Sakyamuni, founder of Buddhism, still remain in good condition in the temple. In addition, there is an 800-odd kilogram bronze bell, a sleeping Buddha, and a thousand-person cooking pot there. The temple is surrounded by dense trees in a quiet valley. It is one of the key temples under State protection, and attracts visitors all the year round. Zion waterfall: This fantastic waterfall showering into the broad pool beneath it was once the favorite splash pool of Sun Yatsen, who overturned the imperial rule of the Manchus.
